Architect: Perkins Eastman Architects

Location: Kew Gardens, New York

Attributes: General Construction, Green Building, LEED Project ManagementPublic Assembly

Project Description: Construction consists of the enclosure of an existing exterior courtyard area to create a new multi-purpose space. Arched structural steel trusses wrapped with metal seam roofing with glass skylights will form the roof of the new space and limestone panels, metal panel and a glass entrance and storefront system will enclose the existing courtyard area. Interior finishes include masonry and drywall clad limestone, granite flooring, and fabric wrapped wall panels for acoustics. The new mechanical system will include ventilation by displacement of cooling system. The ductwork and venting are routed through below slab concrete air plenums that run along the side walls of the new space. The project is designed to have a minimal impact on the environment resulting from the construction of this project; therefore a goal to obtain LEED-NV v.2.2 Silver Certification was established.
